This factsheet provides technical information on Sofar Spotter buoys and how they are used in Vanuatu for ocean monitoring to generate realtime observational data and information on key physical climate and environmental conditions such as wave height.

River catchment restoration are efforts to support the restoration of the Tagabe River and study the possibility of creating corridors for biodiversity. PEBACC+ Project will support tree planting, buffer zone creation, erosion and flood control, community awareness and mobilisation, waste management and governance. Special attention will be given to monitoring and maintenance of the trees planted.

To improve understanding of the impact of communities on their natural ecosystems, land use surveys conducted in the three Key Biodiveristy Areas (KBA) of West Malekula: Wiawi, Bamboo Bay and Tisiri Lagoon.

Ornithologist Andrew Morris joined the Biological Rapid Assessment (BIORAP) team to Malekula to lead the bird study in Key Biodiversity Areas (KBAs) in July 2022. Bird species were identified by listening to bird calls, audio recordings, visual sighting, and photographs taken with special bird cameras. In the KBAs, the key bird species found include the Vanuatu Kingfisher, Vanuatu Streak Fantail, and Vanuatu White Eye.

This toolkit aims to provide teachers across the Pacific with resources and activities that will allow them to increase awareness of the issues surrounding waste generation and disposal, as well as enabling students to plan and implement strategies appropriate to their schools, homes, and communities to reduce the amount of waste going to landfill.

Variability in rainfall and cyclone activity is strongly a􀄫ected by the South Pacific Convergence 􀁿one (SPC􀁿) and the El Ni􀅹o Southern Oscillation (ENSO). In El Ni􀅹o years, the SPC􀁿 moves north-east in the western tropical Pacific, leading to drier conditions and fewer cyclones over Vanuatu. In La Ni􀅹a years, the SPC􀁿 moves south-west, leading to wetter conditions and more cyclones over Vanuatu.

Vanuatu has a warmer and wetter season from November to April and a slightly cooler and drier season from May to October.
