This session provides participants with an overview of the EIA process including reference to SPREP SPTO Regional EIA Guidelines which includes templates for how to assess an EIA and mitigation risk for a development project.

This session sets the tone for the training by providing examples of sustainable tourism efforts from across the region, as well as poorly implemented tourism developments across the region.

This session introduces the concepts of waste management and importance of earlier identification of and planning for management of waste streams. It also covers elements of Samoa’s plastics bans and waste management commitments including the use of waste audits and Samoa’s waste accounting. Participants also shared their views and challenged the status quo to suggest novel means of dealing with the waste problem in the Pacific.

Session discusses the use of renewables in the Pacific context, drawing upon examples from across the region.

Socialising of available toolkits to support tourism recovery. SPTO presents on the codes of practice and discuss other relevant codes of practice for tourism operations. The Toolkit comprises of 7 chapters that are designed to support Tourism SMEs in the Pacific respond, adapt, and diversify their products and services through an improved understanding of the changing tourism market and traveler demands.

Brief overview of the PLP-ESS partnership which brings key partners including the World Bank, The Asian Development Bank, The University of the South Pacific and SPREP to deliver capacity building on environmental and social safeguard issues in the Pacific.

Session covers developing your concept into a plan and the importance of monitoring your project and how to gauge sustainable success. It also touches on the importance of an EMP and how this is an essential component of an EIA approval and project management tool and monitoring for approval conditions.

Presentation highlights the support by the ACPMEA III program and its support for parties to the Noumea convention on pollution control and EIA implementation.

The launch of the Pacific Marine Biosecurity Toolkit on 1st March 2022 also introduced the new Pacific battler series called "Manage marine biosecurity in the Pacific", a guide that provides an introduction on how to manage invasive marine species in the Pacific.
