This report covers the State of Chuuk component of a project involving used oil audits in selected Pacific Island countries. The objective of the audits is to establish volumes of lubricating, hydraulic and transmission oils imported annually into each country and the volumes of used oil produced, stored or otherwise disposed. The work has been carried out by Contract Environmental Ltd under a contract to the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP), with funding provided by the Global Environment Facility. Most of the information required for the audit has been obtained in a country visit undertaken by Martyn O’Cain from 9 June to 15 June 2014 and was organised through the local Environmental Protection Agency in Chuuk

These guidelines have been developed to assist CARICOM and SPREP country practitioners with the integration of climate change adaptation considerations into the environmental impact assessment (EIA) process, thereby ensuring the selection and implementation of feasible options for development projects. The guidelines adopt a risk management approach for dealing with the existent uncertainties associated with the present status of our knowledge to climate change.

Water resources on coral atolls are from ground water lenses. These lenses are extremely fragile and in many areas very limited in magnitude. Water lenses are also primary longterm water storage facility for many people. The quality of the lens is dependent on rainfall and the width of the land. From this, it is clearly evident that water resources in Kiribati would be threatened by climate change involving more frequent (shorter with severer impacts) or longer duration droughts and coastal erosion

The Fifteenth SPREP Meeting of Officials (15SM) was convened in Pape’ete, French Polynesia, from 13 to 16 September 2004. A list of Representatives of the SPREP member countries and territories as well as observers is attached as Annex I.

This synthesis from seven countries, two territories and one NGO highlights the issues raised during the review of the 2001-2004 SPREP Action Plan and the development o(a)new Action plan for the period 2005-2009.

The 2004 work programme and budget (and the projections for 2005 and 2006) has been prepared in accordance with SPREP's financial regulations, The work programme continues the main thrust of the Secretariat's work over the current triennium drawing its focus and priorities from the organisation's 2001 - 2004 Action Plan, the 2001 - 2005 Corporate Plan and feedback from Pacific island countries and territories (PICTs) both during SPREP Meetings and country consultations

Conservation can best be achieved when conservation values are part of the mainstream of society, when they “become part of everyone’s decisions” including government, private enterprise and the community as a whole. This was recognized by the more than 320 participants from Pacific island governments, Pacific and international organizations and community groups when they met in Rarotonga, Cook Islands in July 2002 for the 7th Conference on Nature Conservation and Protected Areas
