General Notes
The first edition of the Survey manual for Tropical marine Science was published in 1994. Since that time the usefulness of this manual has been demonstrated in many countries throughout the world, while the need for the monitoring of change in the world's tropical coastal habitats has become more important than ever. The need for coastal monitoring is especially strong in countries where people make substantial use of nearshore forests and seafood for their day-to-day living requirements of food, shelter and energy. However, the sustainable development of coastal resources requires comprehensive public education and often strong management action in order to prevent irreversible decline in water quality or loss of coastal habitats.
