This is the first development plan to be formulated in the strategic approach to economic and social development planning. However it is the seventh development plan to be formulated by the Government in a series of development plans that started in 1965. Essentially the earlier Development Plans were for a fixed five-year period each, with the conventional coverage of the economy and then to the economic sectors and with national objectives to be achieved within each plan period.
