In the wake of the Earth Summit and the Barbados Conference, island countries of the Pacific region have been working to define an achievable path towards sustainable development. Given the responsibility for over five per cent of the Earth's surface, and all the complexities of sustainable development, the activities outlined in this report represent a creditable effort. While not claiming to be exhaustive, this report seeks to highlight the successes achieved so far, and where continued investment at national, regional and international levels is most needed.
