Exploratory fishing for snappers and groupers was effected in the waters at the edge of the Virgin Islands plateau. Several species appear to exisrt in relative abundance at the depths of 50 to 130 fathoms along the outer slope of the plateau. The fish caught from these areas to date have provent o be non-toxic. Bioassay methods employed to date have not proved successful in determining whether a fish is ciguatoxic.
